Reagan's Boyhood Chicago Home Faces Demolition
DIXON (By Derek Barichello, Daily Gazette) - Chicago is not in any rush to compete with Dixon when it comes to preserving Ronald Reagan's history.
One of Reagan's little-known boyhood homes in Chicago is facing demolition.
A vacant six-flat building at 832 E. 57th St., where a 4-year-old Reagan lived, could see the wrecking ball as the University of Chicago expands in that area, according to several Chicago media reports.
The Commission on Chicago Landmarks told me the building does not meet the criteria for landmark status. It does not have architectural significance and is not associated with Reagan during his productive years. The building is not marked.
Reagan, whose family moved often, lived there only a year. The Reagans also lived in Tampico, Galesburg and Monmouth before moving in 1920 to Dixon, where he lived in a few different homes.
Reagan survived pneumonia in the gas-lit Chicago apartment, and he and his 6-year-old brother, Neil, sold popcorn while living there.
The 40th president and Barack Obama are the only two U.S. presidents to have lived in Chicago.

My 11 month old niece Ava recently got a little Karaokemachine with a plastic microphone. Ava has enjoyed singing – well sort ofsinging – well let’s say she enjoys putting the entire microphone into hermouth and babbling. This new research study shows a relationship between whichside of a baby’s mouth moves first when babbling (the right) and the link tothe language centers of the left hemisphere.

Just a few minutes arounda newborn is enough to get anyone babbling like, well, a baby. But just whatdrives an infant's babbles remains a matter of much debate. Some scientistsposit that the sounds result from a baby's attempts to gain control over his mouth,tongue and lips and, therefore, are not related to language. A secondhypothesis holds that babbling instead represents a key step on the way tospeaking real words. New research published today in the journal Sciencefurther supports the latter theory--scientists say they have linked babybabbling to the brain's language-center.
By studying videotapes of 10 babies betweenthe ages of five and 12 months, Laura Ann Petitto of Dartmouth College andSiobhan Holowka of McGill University examined the degree of symmetry betweenthe right and left sides of each baby's mouth. The brain's language center islocated in the left side of the brain, which controls the right side of thebody. As a result, in adults, the right side of a speaker's mouth tends to openslightly wider than the left (although the difference is imperceptible ineveryday conversation). The scientists found that when babies babbled, theirmouths opened more on the right-hand side. A nonbabble noise (such as the sound"ahh") resulted in a symmetrical open mouth and a smile caused theleft-hand side to open wider. "This discovery is the first to demonstrateleft hemisphere cerebral specialization for babies' production of language,just like we see in adults," Petitto says. "This suggests that languagefunctions specialize in the brain at a very early age." She is currentlyinvestigating whether the findings could help develop diagnostic tools todetermine--even before a baby has uttered his first 'real' word--if he mayencounter linguistic problems in the future. Yes, features of masculinity--such as a heavy brow and angular face--somewhat overlap the expressions ofanger and the facial features of roundness and soft features--overlapwith the facial expressions for happiness so we are more likely to see asmiling face as feminine and an angry face as masculine. (Interesting to notethat men with higher than average testosterone smile less)

Unlike a recent joint appearance on the show by President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama during which questioning ranged from how romantic is the president to the couple's anniversary, the show's five hosts skipped the softball questions and got right into red meat — including military service, abortion and the Romneys' Mormon faith. When the Obamas' appearance aired on Sept. 25, the panel stuck to questions about the First Couple's 20th wedding anniversary and whether or not President Obama is "romantic," though they did query Obama lightly about the murder of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, which the president declined to characterize at the time as an act of terrorism.

(FOX News Network) - Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager announced Wednesday that she's pregnant with her first child, due in the spring.
The 31-year-old made the announcement on NBC's "Today" show, where she is a contributing correspondent.
Hager, the twin daughter of former President George W. Bush, and her husband, Henry, have been married for four years.
During a phone call on the show, former President Bush said he's "fired up" about becoming a grandfather, and former first lady Laura Bush said she's "thrilled." It will be the couple's first grandchild.

Talking to Scott Hagerstrom, the Hardball anchor didn't seem to hear the answer, despite Hagerstrom repeating it over and over. Matthews fumed, "Well, who's paying your salary?"
A calm Hagerstrom appeared on the show to discuss the just-passed right-to-work law in Mighican. He explained, "I work for Americans for Prosperity...This is about freedom for everybody." Matthews repeated over and over: "Who's paying your salary?...No, but who's paying your salary to do it? Who's paying your salary to do what you're doing right now?...Who's paying your– to do this today?"

Now everyone has a video and top ten lists of the best, mostpopular, funniest, Harlem shake videos are all over the internet.
Here is how body language effects our fascination with the YouTube video phenomenon the Harlem Shake.
Our primitive brain tuned to be hunters and watch forchanges in the environment such as movement that indicates possible moving gameor predators who could eat us. The videos start with a few people who are stillwith one person moving in a simple seemingly docile repetitive motion. Our eyes are designed to go toward movement, and because that person isthe only one moving significantly we focus our attention solely on him or her. He or she does not look scary but they are interesting and the fact thatthey are moving in synch with the repetive throb of the music helps hold ourfocus on that one part of the video. Suddenly the music changes to a wildmix and the still seemingly safe people are moving wildly and in some videosmany more people appear looking wild and fierce. Our brain fires on all cylindersand we are captivated. In fact, it gives us such a hit of adrenaline that wecrave more and may spend the next hour looking through top ten lists for newunseen Harlem Shake Hit.

Here is a research quote ofthe facial feedback loop that explains why I do outside in coaching (change thesmile to change how you feel) and inside out coaching (change how you feel toeffect the clients smile. )
The facial feedbackhypothesis states that individuals can initiate emotions through their facialexpression (McIntosh, 1996). If individuals make a specific facial expression, itwill illicit the emotion. The facial feedback hypotheses proposes thatexpression amplify our emotions by activating muscles associated with specificstates and the muscles signal the body to respond as through we wereexperiencing those states. Thus when we simulate the facial expressionsnormally associated with happiness, we may fell happier. Similarly, thebehavior feedback hypotheses assumes that if we move body as we would whenexperiencing some emotion such as smiling when we are happy, we are likely tofeel that emotion to some degree.
Research Strack, Martin, andStepper (1988) provided a relevant study in support for the facial feedbackhypothesis. These researchers utilized the facial simulation procedure in whichparticipants were posed into a certain facial pose. This technique has oftenbeen associated in testing the facial feedback hypothesis. Participants wereasked to read a set of cartoons and respond by rating how humorous the cartoonswere. The condition of the facial-pose simulation was used utilizing a pencilplaced between the teeth of some participants. The three conditions of thepencil included between the teeth, lips, or use of the non-dominant hand(Strack, Martin, & Stepper, 1988). Results and ratings concluded that thosewho held the pencil between their teeth, producing a smile rated that thecartoons were more humorous than those that inhibited the smile.
