Late Thursday afternoon, Enrique Milla testified at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse from his new home in Lima, Peru via Skype. He said he wanted a penile implant to improve his sex life in 2007. "About a year before I realized I had problems," Milla said through a translator. "I had problems having intimate relations with my wife. As time went by, that problem got worse."

Milla's attorney argues that an anesthesiologist overlooked his client's pre-existing medical conditions, which resulted in Milla having no more external male genitalia. According to the lawyer, Milla should have never been allowed to undergo elective penile implant surgery to treat erectile dysfunction back in August 2007.

Instead, the vial will be donated to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, officials said Thursday.

The consignor, who bought the vial at another auction back in February for $3,550, agreed to call off the auction and donate the vial instead. The donor wishes to remain anonymous, the Reagan Foundation said.

(FoxNews.com) - The Obama White House is drawing ridicule for appending the official online biographies of nearly every president over the last century in order to link President Obama's accomplishments to the former commanders in chief.

The Obama team went into the pages of U.S. presidents dating back to Calvin Coolidge to add friendly looking "Did you know?" fact boxes to the end of their bios. Those additions were used to plug a host of Obama administration initiatives, ranging from the health care overhaul to the so-called "Buffett Rule" to his green-energy policies.

For instance, the following line was added to the official bio of the late President Ronald Reagan: "In a June 28, 1985, speech, Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multimillionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule."

The millions of people who spend hours every day on a cell phone may have a newexcuse for yakking. A surprising new study in mice provides the first evidencethat long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves associated with cell phone usemay actually protect against, and even reverse, Alzheimer's disease.

The study, led by University of South Florida researchers at the FloridaAlzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC), was published in the Journal ofAlzheimer's Disease.

"It surprised us to find that cell phone exposure, begun in earlyadulthood, protects the memory of mice otherwise destined to developAlzheimer's symptoms," said lead author Gary Arendash, PhD, USF ResearchProfessor at the Florida ADRC. "It was even more astonishing that theelectromagnetic waves generated by cell phones actually reversed memoryimpairment in old Alzheimer's mice."

The researchers showed that exposing old Alzheimer's mice to electromagneticwaves generated by cell phones erased brain deposits of the harmful proteinbeta-amyloid, in addition to preventing the protein's build-up in youngerAlzheimer's mice. The sticky brain plaques formed by the abnormal accumulationof beta amyloid are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Most treatments againstAlzheimer's try to target beta-amyloid.

The highly-controlled study allowed researchers to isolate the effects of cellphone exposure on memory from other lifestyle factors such as diet andexercise. It involved 96 mice, most of which were genetically altered todevelop beta-amyloid plaques and memory problems mimicking Alzheimer's diseaseas they aged. Some mice were non-demented, without any genetic predispositionfor Alzheimer's, so researchers could test the effects of electromagnetic waveson normal memory as well.

Both the Alzheimer's and normal mice were exposed to the electromagnetic fieldgenerated by standard cell phone use for two 1-hour periods each day for sevento nine months. The mice didn't wear tiny headsets or have scientists holdingcell phones up to their ears; instead, their cages were arranged around acentrally-located antenna generating the cell phone signal. Each animal was housedthe same distance from the antenna and exposed to electromagnetic wavestypically emitted by a cell phone pressed up against a human head.

If cell phone exposure was started when the genetically-programmed mice wereyoung adults -- before signs of memory impairment were apparent -- theircognitive ability was protected. In fact, the Alzheimer's mice performed aswell on tests measuring memory and thinking skills as aged mice withoutdementia. If older Alzheimer's mice already exhibiting memory problems wereexposed to the electromagnetic waves, their memory impairment disappeared.Months of cell phone exposure even boosted the memories of normal mice toabove-normal levels. The memory benefits of cell phone exposure took months toshow up, suggesting that a similar effect in humans would take years if cellphone-level electromagnetic exposure was provided.

Based on their promising and unexpected findings in mice, the researchersconcluded that electromagnetic field exposure could be an effective, non-invasiveand drug-free way to prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease in humans. They arecurrently evaluating whether different sets of electromagnetic frequencies andstrengths will produce more rapid and even greater cognitive benefits thanthose found in their current study.

"If we can determine the best set of electromagnetic parameters toeffectively prevent beta-amyloid aggregation and remove pre-existing betaamyloid deposits from the brain, this technology could be quickly translated tohuman benefit against AD" said USF's Chuanhai Cao, PhD, the other majorstudy author. "Since production and aggregation of β-amyloid occurs intraumatic brain injury, particularly in soldiers during war, the therapeuticimpact of our findings may extend beyond Alzheimer's disease."

The memory test used to evaluate the effects of cell phone exposure in mice wasclosely designed from a sensitive test used to determine if Alzheimer'sdisease, or its very early signs (mild cognitive impairment), are present inhumans. "Since we selected electromagnetic parameters that were identicalto human cell phone use and tested mice in a task closely analogous to a humanmemory test, we believe our findings could have considerable relevance tohumans," Arendash said.

The researchers found a slight increase in brain temperature during the twoone-hour periods when mice were exposed to electromagnetic waves each day. Thisincrease in brain temperature was seen only in the Alzheimer's mice, and onlyafter months of exposure. The researchers suggest the increase in braintemperature helped the Alzheimer's brain to remove newly-formed beta-amyloid bycausing brain cells to release it.

The researchers were particularly surprised to discover that months of cellphone exposure actually boosted the memory of non-demented (normal mice) toabove-normal levels. They suspect that the main reason for this improvementinvolves the ability of electromagnetic exposure to increase brain activity,promoting greater blood flow and increased energy metabolism in the brain."Our study provides evidence that long-term cell phone use is not harmfulto brain," Dr. Cao said. "To the contrary, the electromagnetic wavesemitted by cell phones could actually improve normal memory and be an effectivetherapy against memory impairment"

"It will take some time to determine the exact mechanisms involved inthese beneficial memory effects," Arendash said. "One thing is clear,however - the cognitive benefits of long-term electromagnetic exposure arereal, because we saw them in both protection- and treatment-based experimentsinvolving Alzheimer's mice, as well as in normal mice."

Previous human studies of electromagnetic waves from cell phones involved onlybrief exposures given to normal humans. While some studies reported smallimprovements in attention or memory (not enough to impact daily life), othersreported no memory effects from short-term exposure. The new study by Arendash,Cao, and their colleagues is the first to investigate the effects of long-termelectromagnetic exposure over many months on memory function in either humansor animals. The findings indicate that "long-term" exposure to cellphone level electromagnetic waves is needed to observe enhanced memory innormal or memory-impaired mice.

The USF researchers began investigating the effects of cell phone use onAlzheimer's disease several years ago, after several observational studies inhumans linked a possible increased risk of Alzheimer's with"low-frequency" electromagnetic exposure -- like the energy wavesgenerated by power and telephone lines. However, cell phones emit"high-frequency" electromagnetic waves, which are very differentbecause they can have beneficial effects on brain cell function, such asincreasing brain cell activity, Arendash said.

There has been recent controversy about whether electromagnetic waves from cellphones cause brain cancer. Some researchers argue that the risk of glioma (40percent of all brain tumors) doubles after 10 or more years of cell phone use.However, others argue that since the overall lifetime risk of developing abrain tumor of any type is less than 1 percent, any doubling of this risk wouldstill be very low. Groups such as the World Health Organization, the AmericanCancer Society, and the National Institutes of Health, have all concluded thatscientific evidence to date does not support any adverse health effectsassociated with the use of cell phones. Consistent with the view of theseorganizations, the researchers found no autopsy evidence of abnormal growth inbrains of the Alzheimer's mice following many months of exposure to cellphone-level electromagnetic waves. They also found all major peripheral organs,such as the liver and lungs, to be normal.

Stokes County Schools propose saving jobs with $1 million from fund balance

(By Meghann Evans, The Stokes News) - School officials have warned county government for a few years now that 2012-13 would be a cliff year, with the loss of federal stimulus funds and cuts in state funding leaving school systems scrambling for dollars.

This is evident in the proposed Stokes County Schools budget for 2012-13, which proposes to use around $1 million of the school system’s roughly $1.6 million undesignated fund balance to balance the budget instead of cutting staff.

“The primary goal in the development of the budget for 2012-13 was to save the jobs of our employees,” explained Superintendent Ronnie Mendenhall.

Town of Walnut Cove denies request to release report

(By Meghann Evans, The Stokes News) - The Town of Walnut Cove has informed former town manager Homer Dearmin that his request for a copy of a 2004 report regarding an investigation by Dixon Hughes has been denied.

At the board’s meeting on May 1, Dearmin requested a copy of the report issued to the town in April 2004 by Dixon Hughes, Certified Public Accountants and Advisers. Dearmin said he believed this document is a public record “as it details the practices of the police department with regard to record-keeping and handling of finances.”

The report was commissioned by the town board at the time at a cost of $19,403.05, according to information provided by Town Manager Byron Ellis in an email last month. He said the figure was obtained by calling the accounting firm, since the town no longer has the paid invoice.

King City Council adopts budget

(By Keith T. Barber, The Stokes News) - By a vote of 3-1, the King City Council adopted a $5.28 million budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year during a special called meeting on Monday.

Council members Charles Allen, Dillard Burnette and Brian Carico voted in favor of the finalized budget, while councilman Wesley Carter voted against it.

During a public hearing, King resident Carolyn Newsom thanked the council for “not taking the easy way out,” by not raising property taxes. She addressed the significant cuts made to the King Police Department. She said she agreed with the city council’s approach of taking a “top down” approach to cutting the department’s budget.

Newsom was the only resident who signed up to speak at Monday’s hearing.

Stokes County board opposes fracking

(By Meghann Evans, The Stokes News) - A round of applause followed the Stokes County Board of Commissioners’ unanimous decision to approve a resolution in opposition of hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” for natural gas.

The vote was taken at the end of the board’s Monday afternoon meeting. Several citizens attended the meeting to hear the vote. The resolution will now be sent to leadership of the N.C. General Assembly and the county’s legislative delegation.

The resolution states that “the Stokes County Board of Commissioners urge the North Carolina General Assembly to take no action and pass no legislation that would legalize hydraulic fracturing or horizontal drilling in North Carolina before it is fully demonstrated that North Carolina public health, waters, land, air, economy, and quality of life can be fully protected from the impacts of allowing shale gas development in the State.”

I just read an excellent article in Harpers Magazine. MarkKingwell a professor o f philosophy at the University of Toronto talks aboutthe effects of public space and interviews the architect of the World TradeCenter Memorial.

The architect waxes profound about what he wanted to achievewith the controversial memorial. It is what he said about its meaning when askedby a security guard at the site that expressed it the best. “Well, I wanted tocreate a voiced—Two cascading voids.”  How interesting he should say that. I think that is what 9/11 gave us. How simple a memorial. Something thatdoesn’t rise up to celebrate but instead recedes with tears of grief into avoid.

A client of mine, who is now being considered for a reality show, recently sought some last minute coaching advice. Here are my rough notes to him that you may want to consider and adapt for your use when you are at a meeting or job interview networking event.  


1.       Be very present and connect with each person you speak with.
2.      Focus on them completely when you’re with them. That is the number one behavior of a charismatic person.
3.      If you are in room with other candidates, producers etc., get there early, stand near the door and introduce yourself and introduce people to each other.  
4.      You are a life of the party guy, very smart and very witty and I would coach you to be your wonderful self.
5.      Find something fun and cleaver to say about the day, the food or the ambiance.
6.      Find a fellow auditionee to have a little fun and laugh with so they can see how much fun you would be as a team member.
7.      Spend quality time with and make yourself memorable to the decision makers thank them at the beginning and be the last one to thank them at the end be grateful and happy to have a chance to be there.
8.     I was so impressed with you and your fun lively story telling ability when I we worked together I know they will love you.  

• Most important get out sticky notes or 3 by  5 cards
• Write questions you know they will ask
• Write questions you hope they won’t ask
• What situations your fear may come up one question/fear for each sticky note.
• Turn each note over and come up with an answer you are comfortable with.
• Come up with a few questions you can ask others to open them up and get them comfortable
• Mix it up, be serious and be funny mix it up. Then have a few friends take the sticky notes and ask you the questions

Overall I see Zimmerman; defiant at times angry, upset andpained to have here is parents testimony.
See my notes below on how chained handcuffs may affect bodylanguage and make anyone angry. There is only one small piece of tape showinghis sitting down so you can see the handcuffs.
In Courtroom, at beginning of bond hearing, Zimmerman is defiantand angry.  With the facial musclesaround the mouth held tight he appears to be showing classic signs of anger heis biting down hard, and thrust the chin up and forward.  This body language says, “Don’t mess with me.”In body language we go forward with are bodies to attack. When someone ispumping themselves up to fight they may as Zimmerman is doing here, push theirchests up and out and lead with their jaw.

As Zimmerman listens to his dad describe his injuries hisshoulders are back head is up. One of the few times he blinks normally. Lawyer tweaksquestions of Zimmerman’s father, “Did you see any pictures of that? Zimmermandoes an eyes shutter closing his eyes to the situation.
Zimmerman is pained to have his father questioned.  When the defense attorney repeats thequestion you see (time code: 31 to 32) Zimmerman’s head go down and his whole facesto scrunches us in pain like a child about to cry.

In other tape today

Zimmerman also shows other classic anger signals. Anger – Angershows pull your eyebrows down and together so the inner corners of your eyes godown and towards your nose then you stare so that your upper eyelids and yourlowered eyebrows meet now press your lips together tightly lips appear verythin.  When someone is about to attacksignal of a pressed lips tend to precede arms going out to attack. Zimmermandoes lips presses of anger as well as lip puckering in distaste
There are contextual situational reasons that we may seesome of the emotions in Zimmerman for example he is in chained handcuffs. Inresearch on anger when physiologist are trying to create the emotion of angerin subjects they produce anger by holding the arms of the research subject sothey cannot get free. If we are prevented from doing what we want to do, inthis case Zimmerman wishes to defend himself, also when we feel that someone istrying to deliberately hurt us or denigrate us in any way the natural responseis anger or fear. And if we are fearful a way stress response freeze flightfight fall or faint o reduce the fear and feel stronger is to become angry.Anger increases the heart rate produces adrenaline.
Also anger calls forth Anger. The Prosecuting attorney is veryskilled. His voice is incredulous and angry and he attacks Zimmerman with hisquestions. Specifically asking about Zimmerman about saying he was sorry.  
As he comes in the courtroom and sits with the handcuffs.
Asked his name he reply’s  “George Michael Zimmerman” on head forward andchin up imperious shoulders back.
We see him take a breath micro facial cue . “as his lawyersays” anything he says, see his lips close on NBC NEW. Time stamp 17. showinghe wants to keep something in, slight indication what is coming out next is notthe truth.  
I wanted to say, I am sorry,for the loss of your son,  I did not knowhow old he was I thought he was a little younger than I am. I did not know thathe was armed or not’ All addressed with his head to the lawyer his heartstraight forward. When prosecuting attorney said (time :37 “ no to the mother and father CNN 10:54 in courtroom.His nose flares, his brow leaps to  upsee the folds and his eyebrows went up asymmetrically his lips purse indistaste in slight anger. See how his chin stays up. He is confident.

Prosecutor says, “You told that to the police,” Zimmerman:58presses his lips up and gives an asymmetrical grimace (Neocortex logical brainand emotional limbic brain in conflict. / note his eyes he glares. He is mad,but trying to suppress it and he feels caught in the lie. “Who did you make that statement too?” Zimmerman replies,“Aahhhh” shakes his head no again as Prosecutor says, “I believe you gave fivestatements total” (Time code 1:21) He shakes his head no while saying, “Yes sirI am sorry, all the names blend together. Has micro facial cue again eyebrowsup big smirk asymmetrical revealing anger and fear then purse. 
“I don’t remember exactly what verbatim,” His paralanguageis more abrupt he gives a vocal strike on the word verbatim. He gives an eyeblock (time code 1:40)
Time code 2:10 time on the clock10:56. You left a messagefor them to tell them that. Zimmerman furrowed brow lips again pursed indistaste.
Prosecutor, “Why did you wait so long to tell Mr. Martin”Zimmerman at time code  Zimmerman reply’sin soft submissive voice, “I don’t understand the question, I am sorry.” (timecode 2:17) But he follows it wish a lip press of frustration, and a tonguethrust (sticking out his tongue to attack the prosecutor) showing he doesunderstand the implication of the question and is mad>

Below are my notes for Hollywoodlife interview after reading recent photos of Robert Pattinson.  Check out the links below to see the photos I read and then my insights.

In a recent interview Robert Pattinson (The actor who played in Twilight) said he felt so scared about taking on roles other than Twilight. Looking at recent photographs during a press event  for his new movie Cosmopolis.

Does he look comfortable?  He does look fairly comfortable though he is showing a slight lack of confidence by the lack of space he takes up and the asymmetry of his gesture clusters in many of the photos. Under confident men place their feet apart more of six to eight inch range. Look at all the men’s feet in the first group.. See how he has his heels closer together than the other three men. Also look at that first photo and see how he has his arms close to his body and his hand in his pocket and in addition has his body at a slight tilt.
That shows a little protectiveness. We show ourselves straight on when we are super confident.  When we aren’t super self assured we may stand or tilt and present asymmetrically.
The most interesting thing I think is how he is interacting with the guys. He is feeling a difference in his power and relationships. 

Remember how he was often interviewed and photographed as part of a couple or love triangle in the twilight press conferences. I read hundreds of those press conference photos. In this press conference he is often shot looking at the men and lowering his head and shoulders as he listens. I think here its not necessarily a lack of comfort of self-confidence, but respect, the  recogogntion he is not the alpha male of the group.  He's interacting with experienced, powerful men he is feeling the difference of interacting with young co stars and an adoring young female audience and that is making him nervous.
 The photos were he is laughing show a great ease and delight. There is one particular photo where he is laughing leaning forward with a full open mouth and teeth showing  that indicate a true playful laugh that you actually don’t see very often at press conferences. (Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are rare exceptions they both have that wonderful laugh)  What is interesting to me is how he is dealing with other people.
He does put his hand over his mouth in a few of photos in way that suggests he is unsure or lacks confidence, but the laughing photos show me that was just a little blip in his other wis not sure he is speaking.
The toothpick is a nice prop. Men use this little sharp weapon like a artifact to say, remember I am the cool guy.  Note he didn’t just finish eating corn on the cob he is at a press conference. So we know he is choosing that prop to enhance his image. Toothpicks also serve as a comforting prop. There are so many nerve ending in and around the mouth and chewing the toothpick stimulates the nerves and creates a soothing chemical response.
